North Carolina has decided that a vote will take place soon for the idea of marriage equality. This vote is about reinforcing marriage between a man and a woman. This would basically mean that gay marriage is still illegal in North Carolina.
I personally have a strong very that I will be voting for the amendment to pass, because it states in the bible that marriage should be between one man and one woman. I am sure that many people see this as being a type of discrimination, but the amendment simply sets in stone the right of one man and one woman for marriage. This is the way that it has been for a very long time, and voting for this amendment just ensures it stays in place.
The truth is it is no surprise that plenty of homosexual people live in North Carolina. The amendment is not banning that you cannot live here, or saying you are less than someone else. Simply the amendment says homosexuals may not marry in North Carolina. If you are a homosexual it doesn't mean that you cannot move to a state that has legalized gay marriage, such as California or New York. Opportunities to live a homosexual in North Carolina are no different than they have been and the rights of this citizens remain the same as everyone else. This vote many not even seem important to many because it simply doesn't apply to you, but it is important to understand that this vote is a matter of staying with the protestant tradition or not.
I understand that this issue causes lots of drama between people and arguments. The point is everyone has their own option on the matter and the way to solve this issue is by voting for what you believe. I am strong on my opinion because I base mine off of my religion and the bible. I believe that it is important today to stick to what I believe in and that is exactly what I plan on doing.
Are you against or for?
Personally, I am very much against the amendment, not only because of personal beliefs, but also because the Constitution, the basis of our entire government, clearly states that the government shall not base its laws and policies on religion. In doing so, it endorses any given religion specifically, which completely contradicts the Constitution and the principles of our entire government.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is supported by the fact that our nation was based on the idea of the Protestant religion and the idea of "Under God We Trust". I understand that everyone has different views on this situation, but based upon what I believe and the foundation of our country, I feel that this amendment should defiantly pass and become part of the constitution.

Delete(Had to correct some grammar on the first comment) Actually, the "In God We Trust" was added in the 50s (I'm taking American History right now, so we've covered quite a bit - you can look it up on Google). There was a revival of religion during that time following WWII - people turned to faith in the aftermath of the devastation. The actual framers of the Constitution NEVER mention religion in the Constitution aside from the fact that the U.S. shall never endorse a religion, nor prohibit its practice outside the government itself (also taking American Government... so we've read the Constitution multiple times... xD). While the majority religion of our country has been and still is that of Christianity, the fact that no specific religion is included in what most consider the "supreme law of the land" (our Constitution), I stand by the fact that our country wasn't founded on religious principles.
DeleteIn any case, this time around, I'm pretty sure it'll pass. That being said, as our generation is far more accepting of homosexuality, it's been predicted to be overturned in a decade or two.
I feel this proposed Amendment has been blown way out of proportion. Simply stated, the proposed NC State Constitutional Amendment is to "provide that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State". Federal law already indicates that "marriage" means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife. As each individual State across the United States votes on this issue on a State level, the results of that vote will send a clear message to the United States Supreme Court and its Justices in the event this issue is brought before them to request a change in the current Federal law contained in the United States Constitution. If the majority of the 50 United States votes in the affirmative of what is already contained in the United States Constitution regarding this matter, the Supreme Court Justices would already know the feelings of the majority of the people in the United States and may choose to take this information into account regarding their own judicial decision.
